Hello,
Has anyone applied for a permit lately? I was wondering how long it typically takes the Park Service to process it? How much lead time is needed?
Does the club do one of these every year or is it up to the individual or a group of pilots who want to fly there to do one for that group of pilots?
Thanks,
Aron

Aron,
For the Shenandoah National Park:
If you are applying for SNP special use permit, your CHGPA club membership must be in good standing and provide a copy of your USHPA rating card with the P3/H3 or higher, with cliff launch.
Link for the application: https://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/ ... ng_508.pdf.
Personally, I don’t have any interest as a hangglider pilot to go to the park now, for many reasons as LZ, walking distance to launch and more. Though, many of the PG pilots have a permit and go there frequently.

Good info, thanks Knut!
I was trying to find more places to fly HG on the east coast while on a trip from PA to GA and back to PA. So there is a reason Dickey Ridge isn't frequently used by HG.
Any other sites that CHGPA recommends for HG other than Woodstock and the Pulpit?
I heard of Bill's Hill...is that worth attempting if the wind is right?
Thanks,
Aron
