Bills Hill PG XC 3/20

Post by XCanytime »

Volunteered to drive XC retrieve for Tom Ceunen and his minions  after working in the AM. Original site was the SAC but switched to Bills in the AM. Work lasted an hour and a half longer than expected, so I didn't hit the road til 2P. Approaching Breezewood on I70 I got on the blower w/ 5 watts Tx power, and to my surprise Tom and Syrus responded. Syrus was over Breezewood, and Tom further south. After a stop at Sheetz in Breezewood, headed south leisurely in the valley between Ray's Hill and Tussey Mountain, awaiting a text message from either pilot after they landed. At 4:30P got a text message from Syrus, w/ a Google pin location link. Plugged the GPS coordinates into the Garmin, and easily found Syrus halfway between Mattie and Clearville, PA, around 18 miles from launch. Syrus pulled up the Google live tracking feature on their WhatsApp group, and we saw that Tom had landed down by Hewitt, PA, around 33 miles from launch. That is a cool feature of WhatsApp 8) . Tom's car was dropped off at the Sheetz in Breezewood, so I drove Syrus back to retrieve Tom's car, then set out to find him just for yucks. The landowner had driven Tom 5 miles to a grocery store in Flintstone, MD for some much needed food and drink after a 5 hour flight  . I found Tom sitting at a veteran's memorial across from the grocery store, still a little cold from the 5 hour flight. Syrus pulled up 5 minutes later. I68 access is right at Flintstone, so it was an easy ride back. Bacil
