where to learn how to fly gliders (aka sailplanes) ?

Post by wmelo »

Is there a place where we can learn how to pilot gliders (aka sailplanes) in VA or MD?
Any recommendation?

Depends on how far you want to drive and the "flavor" of the club you seek. There are 2 clubs central to DC.

Skyline Soaring, operates outside of Front Royal VA... link here: http://www.skylinesoaring.org/

I belong to MidAtlantic Soaring which is located near Ski Liberty in PA... link here: https://midatlanticsoaring.org/

You are welcome to come out and fly with me to check things out at M-ASA. I think we may have a waiting list for new students right now but you can still come out, check things out, and help decide if sailplanes are a good choice for you.

Hugh McElrath flies out of Front Royal. He's also on tug duty sometimes.
