Ditto. Looking to fly both Sunday and Monday at the Pulpit. Bacil
Re: Pulpit 5/26/19
A G20 gust factor has crept into the surface 'cast up at the Pulpit, starting at 11am. Maybe an early or (very) late day flight might be possible... How many pilots out there want to gamble? It *is* the middle day of a long weekend, so less of a hassle with traffic and such, even if things don't work out.
Re: Pulpit 5/26/19
Good news: The gust factor has been dropped from the sfc hourly!
But with the change in the forecast, the only way that the Pulpit will work tomorrow is if we get at least four pilots there *early* : Two to launch, maybe flights of an hour if soarable, then back up top to launch the other two. Probably need to be packing up by 2pm, when the chance of rain/storms really picks up.
Do we have the numbers, and timing, to pull that off?

Bacil said... Charlie, Walt and and him plan to be there at 9:30AM. I'm planning around that.

Cool!
Definitely a gamblin' kinda day, but given the cr@ppy luck we've had on the weekends.... I'll take that bet!

The rain arrived sooner than forecast, first drops on top of the mtn by noon. And there were cells upwind and ready to roll through at 12:40 when I hit the road. So our flights were limited....
Myself, Anthony, Bacil, Walt, and Charlie. Plus Danny Brotto swung by, just to help out (thanks dude!). I was up at 6:00 and at launch at 9:10, determined to at least have a flight. An unexpected wasp nest within the window frame where the glider slides in/out slowed me down a bit Which might hint at the last time my glider got outta the house.
I decided to fly asap rather than waiting, impatient but also unwilling to gamble on the timing of the storms. Knew it was gonna be a sledder, but even that would be welcome. Launched with help from Charlie, Danny, and Anthony, burbled down the ridge, took a few lazy-n-slow 360s over the LZ, and had a good landing. Happiness!
Anthony and Bacil followed, and I think Bacil had the best extendo of the day. Then back up top thanks to a ride from Walt.... But he and Charlie decided to break down given the approaching cells. Sorry it didn't work out for you guys!
Hit the road and the cells skirted along the MD/PA border, so the glider stayed dry. Then an awesome IPA at The Roasthouse in Frederick, life is good.

Arrived at 9:45A to find Mark and Anthony already setting up. I put in streamers on the ramp as Walt and Charley arrived in the next few minutes. Conditions were straight in on the ramp at around 10 MPH, and hints of storms to come were on the horizon many miles away. As Mark mentioned, Danny Brotto showed up just to help. Big thanks to him. Mark and Anthony launched while I was setting up. Walt allowed me to go before him. Thanks Walt. I had some pretty good butterflies in my belly since this was the 1st mountain flight since my blown launch at Woodstock on New Year's Day. Danny, Charley, and Walt assisted, and I picked a good cycle and had a good launch into a 10+ MPH straight in breeze. Phew! What a relief. Once stabilized in the air all the muscle memory came back quickly. I headed down to the Rt. 16 xing and scratched for 5+ minutes before succumbing to the pull of gravity and heading out to land. The air was smooth and buoyant. I enjoyed a low stress approach and had a decent landing in the 2" corn. Thanks to Mark for the ride back to launch. Looking forward to some more mountain flights. Good to see the HG group again. After the storm cells passed, by 2:00 pm the day became very nice (although temperature and humidity distinctly rose.) Not sure about wind speed and direction mountain top but on the ground at W73 it continued NW through the end of the day. Didn't look like that was going to happen but maybe waiting it out a couple of hours might have been fruitful.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing Danny, maybe we coulda/shoulda waited things out after the early afternoon storms. Radar was clear after just a couple hours... Sigh.
