So I decided to head down to Taylor Hill for a practice day today, joining in on the fun with six new students that John and Anthony were teaching. Dave Bodner was also there, as were PG pilots Jim and John. Good turnout!
Winds were a bit on the strong side. And switchy. And gusty. And cross. Sigh..... I had hoped to bang out a few flights on a warm SW day, no-muss, no-fuss. But that wasn't happening: It was challenging, hard-cross left, hard-cross right, and cranking at times.
The PG'ers had to deal with some tough conditions (and damn! Jim's kiting skills were amazing to watch!). They actually had an advantage at times, being able to pop the wing up into the cross, and then kite/launch when appropriate. But that said, they had their hands full too, very active day.
I think that all of John and Anthony's students were first-timers. They did pretty darn well given the winds, hopefully they will be back. One of them was a California PG pilot who wanted to explore the dark side.
I did five flights on my Falcon. None of the landings were horrible and I was pretty happy with that. A bunch of pics follow, probably in several posts....
