Thinking about it..... That first cold winter flying day is always hard to get motivated for :!:
High of 39 in the valley. Due W sfc forecast. ADDS 3k fairly strong, but hints of backing off late in the day. I could be convinced I think....
Who else is considering a chilly flight?

43F!
After 2 weeks enjoying 85F in Bahia, Brazil, it will be hard to me to go :(
Let us hope it gets a little bit warmer before next Spring.

Enjoy!

Take your shovels! They got more snow than D.C. area.

We had over 8 inches of snow in Harrisburg. What a mess. I don't have enough mojo to throw the glider on the car at this point unless more people are interested. Could be some nice air later in the day. Guaranteed to be chilly. :?

Latest forecast is now calling for mostly cloudy all day up there, hmmmm... Still might consider, but agree with Charlie, would need to hear at least a few more pilots chiming in.

I'll drive up there if you need help and I'll take my glider. It's going to be snow covered.

Good day at Smithsburg too. Nick Brown had a remarkable first-day hang gliding with 4 flights starting a fifth of the way up the hill and ending a third of the way up! His pitch controlled aggressive takeoff runs are to be envied!

Well-done Nick,

Ward

PS: Wet slushy conditions today with short grass covering the hill and soft (recently plow) earth covering the LZ - no corn stalks. After the thaw, Smithsburg will be ideal.

I'm sorry I'm just now seeing this. I've worked every day since being at Smithsburg (including today, Thanksgiving!), so haven't had a lot of time of loaf on the internet.
Thanks for being in the cheering section, Mark.
That was a humbling experience. It's quite easy to sit an a recliner and read hang gliding books. I never broke a sweat watching every launch and landing video on YouTube, either. But I didn't think it would be that much work carrying the glider back up the hill! I guess I'm preaching to the choir, though, aren't I?
Anyhow, Saturday was fun. I am thirsting for more, so I definitely didn't get scared away. It feels like I have a long journey ahead of me before I get the first high flight, but I'll get there in time.

Nick, that very first day.... Keeping the glider balanced as you run, with wings level, pitch correct... Struggling with the wind as you haul it back up the hill.... That day is the Hardest Day Of All.

I almost bailed after my first lesson, all those years ago.

*So* glad I went back for the second. :D

Glad to hear that you are like minded!
