Pulpit Sunday Sept. 3rd

Post by XCanytime »

With Harvey making its way up to the NE region on Saturday, Sunday looks like it may be flyable at the Pulpit. I'm looking to fly there if there is a decent amount of wind. Bacil

Latest has WNW @ 11 MPH @ HGR for Sunday. That's a pretty darn good forecast. Let's hope it holds. Bacil

Looks like it might be a Woodstock day. Pulpit looks to be blown out. Forecast might change.

Yeah it will be strong to blown out. But not all day. Right now the hourly has it WSW @ 6 MPH at HGR at 0900. Way cross at Woodstock. Not ideal. And the winds will be clocking around from the SW -> WSW -> W. So just get to the Pulpit early and get in the air before it gets too strong. Adapt your schedule to the whims of the site if you want to fly there. Will know more as the hourly gets updated as the day goes on. Bacil

West winds 8 -> 9 -> 10 MPH from 10A -> 11A -> noon at HGR. Can't ask for a better rate increase. Bacil

I am planning to be there early to fly before things get crazy.
Yes, I am planning to use the U2 :) I think I should only pay it after I fly this Sunday, since if I break it, I may get a great discount in its price :)

Looks like the time to take off is between 10A- and 11A+ before it gets out of hand for most pilots. I will be there way early to hopefully grab the 10A-/+ time slot. Bacil

West 8 -> 10 -> 12 MPH from 10A -> 11A -> 12 noon. Early bird gets the worm, plain and simple. Launch window looks from 10A to noon. Bacil

According to XCSkies the lift is very poor until late afternoon and fairly windy with any altitude.

Launch window now 11A to 1P. Plenty of ridge lift guaranteed with a wind direction almost perpendicular to the mountain. I will be there around 9A+. Bacil

Going to Pulpit for a Sunday, day trip on the mountain, helping out. This is the day to come, if you need a lot of wire crew. Pretty sure it will be ridge lift, so come out and fly. Just want to help out for one's.
Planning AT at Bluesky on Labor day, if weather and wife permits it... .

Bacil did go over the mountain and landed XC, and 8 miles.
I am here now in the field, picking him up.
He got 3900 MSL.
Dennis flew too.

Got to launch at 8:45A. Completely socked in. In the next 2 hours Juan Sonen, Ward, Denis Scheele, Walt, Knut, and Anthony showed up. 3 brought gliders, 3 didn't. As the sun burned off the fog by noonish, the launch conditions went from moderate to light. I saddled up twice and got up on the new ramp, and promptly backed off twice when conditions went from light to very light. The sky opened up a little upwind, and it picked up to close to moderate conditions on launch. The 3rd time was the charm. I launched in a light cycle and worked hard to get up. Very north on the ridge. Finally found some good lift out away from the ridge down by Rt. 16. Climbed up to 3900' MSL and squawked at Knut on the radio that I was going OTB. Denis had launched by this time and gotten up. Found a leeside thermal between Cove Mt. and Rt. 75 and climbed back up to ~ 3200' MSL. Knut was shadowing me and had parked at the elementary school. Didn't find much else and had a nice landing along Lemar Road between LeMasters and Upton for ~ 8 miles, 4 miles from the school. Easy retrieve for Knut. Thanks! Back at launch Walt was breaking his new U2 down. It had picked up to very strong conditions at launch and he chose not to fly. Anthony never set up. Mucho thanks to Ward and Knut, who came out just to help launch pilots. Bacil

Made a little video from yesterday's flying at Pulpit.
Unfortinuatelly, the sound was really bad, in the Bacil flight interview.
But, remember what he did say; so, made subtitles.
With permission from Bacil, you can now enjoy "The Interview", if interested.
