Pulpit, Wednesday June 21

Post by Ward Odenwald »

Three days out but looking good for ridge and/or thermal soaring during the entire 2017 longest day. Who's interested?

Wish I was retired :D . Should be a great day. The actual latest sunset is usually around July 5th, 2 weeks after the summer solstice. The longest light period is June 21st (or one day earlier or later). The earliest sunrise is 2 weeks prior to the summer solstice, around June 7th. So up until July 5th the sunset is gradually getting later, then recedes in time after the 5th. So those late day flights can be had until late July. Bacil

Hello,

I'm a visiting pilot from North Carolina interested in flying Pulpit.

I've never flown Pulpit.
I'm a H3 with 300+ flights. 175 foot launch.
Usually fly Hibriten, Glassy, Tater etc...

I'd very much appreciate it if anyone would be willing to give me a site briefing.

Also, I'm willing to drive up Tuesday if anyone is planning on flying.

Thank you,

Daisuke

I am very interested, but I can only be there by 4:00pm, which given the detailed explanations about sunset it should be still good :)

McConnellsburg regional forecasts (NoStepper’s NAM 12km and Windy’s NAM 3km) are now indicating that tomorrow’s ridge lift conditions at the Pulpit will be marginal with a predominantly WSW or SW flow. Given the current LZ conditions (crops), my enthusiasm for flying tomorrow is diminished. Who knows? This could change by this evening’s numbers.

Based on the evening forecasts, I'm on the sideline for tomorrow but will take another look at the morning predictions.

I'll look for another day to make my drive up there.
Hoping the next cold front on Sunday/Monday will bring a steady NW and a bit cooler temp in the area.
Have an awesome/safe flight if you do fly.

Due to the lack of enthusiasm, WSW winds until 2:00pm, & it is a week day, I will take a rain check:(
i am however excited about this weekend @ pulpit (W winds)
