HAM License Renewal - FREE

Post by CraginS »

Remember you can renew your HAM ticket for free either online or by mail, following the information on
https://www.fcc.gov/wireless-services/a ... nu-block-4

I just received my letter blaring It's time to Renew from
Amateur Radio Service
The W5Yi VEC
Arlington TX

Reminder - that snail mail letter is not from FCC. It is a dude in Texas who runs a business charging a fee to do what we all can do for free. DUH.
Don't be fooled if you get his mailing. It is a nice reminder, but do not send him money.

Update - you need to know your FCC Registration Number (FRN) to log in to renew. It is on the bottom front of your license, not the file number on the back. However, if you have misplaced your ticket you can search the database by name, and the results include FRN.

Once logged in with FRN and password (you can reset that, too), it takes only a few minutes to step through the pages to renew.

I did all this about 9 p.m. last night, and my new license was ready to download as a PDF file before 8 a.m. this morning. It stays available for 30 days.
