The US Navy Destroyer Barry leaves the Navy Yard this Saturday

Post by Dan T »

The Navy is removing the Display Ship Barry from the Navy Yard this Saturday. It is being towed down the Potomac and eventually up to Philadelphia where it will eventually be scrapped. The ship is a WWII, Korea, Vietnam era Destroyer. It's will be towed past Haines Point at 9:15 AM Saturday. 9:15 is peak high tide on that day. It needs to pass Haines Point at peak high tide in order to avoid running aground. Haines point is the most difficult part of the transit.

The two best viewing locations are Haines Point and The Yards Park, near the Nationals Stadium. If you aren't doing anything Saturday morning and live in or near Washington it will be a chance to see something you will never see again in Washington DC.
