Re: Woodstock- Sunday 10/25/15
Twas a very nice day at Woodstock. Nice 6-12 straight in with mostly cloudy skies. Gary launched first around two and I followed about fifteen minutes later. Gary managed top stay well above me for the day. i stayed around 1200 over for most of the day but Gary managed 4000 over I flew to Strasburg and landed at the town park swimming pool.Gary gave be a ride back to get my car. Basil flew as well and landed across from the bridge field. Randy Weber tried his PG but it got too strong for it and he went for the hang glider. He was still in the air when I left. A great flying day at Woodstock. Nov 17 is apparently the last day we will have to land in the primary. That is when the new owner closes on the property.

Re: Woodstock- Sunday 10/25/15
I went to the Pulpit first with hopes that an early start was in the cards. It wasn't. I got there at 11A to moderate conditions on launch. So I hit the road at 11:15A and 2 hours later I was at Woodstock launch. Joe wasn't kidding. It was so nice on launch, especially when compared to last weekend at Woodstock. I took off around 2:30P with Randy and Mary's assistance and immediately climbed out in front of launch figure 8ing back and forth, hooting and hollerin', hamming it up for the spectators. We had a nice group of 3 witnessing my launch and a group in the fire tower. Goal was the winery, but it just didn't work a lot at the "clock pulse" finger. I got to 4200' MSL and tried to punch out into the valley upwind, but didn't have a lift line working for me this time. So I went up to Signal Knob, fighting a pretty good north cross all the way to the radio tower. Had an immature baldie staying on my six for a while up at the Knob; he then passed me heading SW, just off my right wing. While climbing in some broken, ratty lift up there Joe showed up in his Big Bird Falcon . I headed back towards the "clock pulse" finger to give it a second try; Joe went out to land at Strasburg. Nothing was working anywhere near like it was earlier, and the clouds were dissipating by the time I intercepted them. The thermals were drifting due south over the back, so I bailed and headed back to the launch area. There it was lifting off greatly, but I was done after a vigorous 1.5 hour battle to get high enough to fly upwind to the winery. I caught a glimpse of Randy in his HG to the SW of launch as I headed out to land in the clear area of the field across from the bridge field. A strong headwind ensued but I made it over the clear area of the field with about 600' AGL. Had a nice uphill landing in some pretty tall grass. Gary offered me a body ride, but I didn't want to leave the glider set up. Good thing, as 10 minutes later a gust from the NE came thru and almost lifted the glider. Randy had a really nice flight, running the ridge to the Edinburg Gap, then the 15 mile run from there to Signal Knob, then back to launch and out to the LZ. The excited spectators did Randy and I a great favor and drove his vehicle down to the bridge field, enabling an easy retrieve. The temps were quite nice, the air was textured enough, the fall colors were at their peak: where were the pilots? Bacil
