Hello all, Jim Sutton here.
I live in NoVA just outside Leesburg, VA.
I completed my P1 at Torrey Pines Gliderport two weeks ago while out there for a family reunion.
Flying off the 350 foot cliffs is quite a P0 experience, not to mention climbing back up from Blacks Beach with 50 lbs of gear.
I was riser bruised and felt like I'd been through a meat grinder, but the flights were great. Top landed last couple flights with s turns and crabbing.
I am 6'6" and 295 lbs.
This school found a harness I could fit into but the seat pan was short (toward thighs). All my kiting and first four flights was on a 43m tandem wing. Last day, my instructor let me use a new, crisp 38m tandem wing that was new.
I avoided the school's insistence on buying gear as I signed up as I wanted the P1 intro experience to evaluate [everything - experience, health match, physicality needed, etc]. It was as much fun as I hoped it would be.
I'd like to begin looking for gently used gear that might fit a tall, heavy pilot.
Thoughts, suggestions.
Jim

Not sure about it being suitable for a beginner but it know the glider we have posted is for a larger person 175-320 I believe . Feel free to check out pics and ask around and if you are interested we can work out meeting up . It is in great shape.
