Hot on the ground, but cool at cloudbase. Not that I spent much time there but it sure was fun when I got there. My longest flight was 50 minutes and a struggle to stay within gliding range of the airport. Earlier in the day the surface conditions were light and variable making challenging landing conditions. Clunked my first landings, but ended the day with good one (there was more wind). Rich E., Rich (red and blue S2), Knut and I were the only solo pilots. Light traffic on the way home so it was a great day.

Arrived ~11AM and flew 3 flights between 1:30PM - 4:00PM. Topped out around 2.8k and had to fly back to the airport twice, after drifting 1/2 way to Greensboro on my two last flights. Though, big blue sink gaps between 300 ft/min working thermals.

Richard Milla flew all the way to Greensboro and back with his Sport 2, a 1 hour flight. Great job!

Conclusion: Delighted I could go to Highland Aerosport yesterday and had a great time, flying now my Discus C without a tail fin attached. Wing does handle incredible good and are also very easy to handle on tow without a fin. Despite a very active air during landing, managed all great landings and felt good about the wing. Would love to try a U2 one day to compare it for my self.

After flying, we all headed to Market Street Public House in Denton and ate some of the specials. Ordered the tuna grilled sandwich, which was a killer and were delicious. Good selection of beers too. Thanks Adam!

Headed home and back over the Bay Bridge at 9PM with no problems, which is a rarity.

Have not given up the mountain flying, but feel that there are much better odds for good flights and landings, during the summer on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Ridgley. Decided to pay storage for one year at Highland and to store the wing there now. As most HG pilots, we love flying, but hate all that has to do with HG transport. So, can now do what I love with HG and avoid what I dislike. Though, will be back in the mountains sooner than later.

See you guys in two weeks, the beach is screaming my name now.

Glad to hear you had a good day, there is a lot to be said for not having a Drag your glider around , especially in the summer time when you know the next place you're going to fly is with are friends out of Highland. Hope to see you next weekend for the next installment of the HC

Unfortunately I am not going to be able to come to Highland Challenger this coming weekend. We are going to a SC Beach on Thursday. Or vacation beach week "coordinates" is out of my control; though, don't complain, since the place for us is almost free. Have fun next weekend; but, maybe I can make up for it, flying a XC the following weekend, Aug 1-2, if weather corporate. Still to early to call, but anybody interested? Knut
