The Region 9 XC contest, encouraging responses

Post by Dan T »

It was encouraging to see so many inquisitive responses to the region 9
contest note. I encourage you all to keep it in mind and start looking for the
announcements early next year.

For those of you who haven't done it, you will find that it's an extra
incentive to get out and fly. Opening day of contest season for me is like opening
day of fishing season to an avid fly fisherman. I look forward to it all
winter. Once you've tried it you may too.

As far as the weather is concerned, it's all relative. In a bad year one
good flight can win the contest, particularly in the novice division. During
this supposedly bad year I had four XC flights on qualifying weekend days. While
none of them were stellar, collectively they were probably enough to earn my
first trophy in the 60 mile class. Ninety percent of it is getting out and
trying. If I can do it so can you.
