Last Saturday I flew my PG during the last official fly in of the season at the Andy Jackson Airpark in San Bernardino. The huge groomed LZ supports launches from the Crestline and Marshall sites. The hang glider pilots typically launch from the higher and windier Crestline launch site while the PG pilots launch from the significantly lower Marshall site as I did.
This time I chose to fly late in the afternoon when the typically strong summer desert thermals had subsided somewhat. I ended up playing with over two dozen wings of both types and landing as the sun set over the mountains to the west.
This is a great site and is the location of Wills Wings test flights. In fact I saw a new addition to one of their T2Cs. It was a set of slim triangular shaped 'boards' attached to the ends of the rounded wingtips. It extended the wingtips so that they were sharply squared off at the ends. I didn't want to disturb the pilot while he was breaking down and lost him in the crowd afterwards so I don't have any info on their function.
Anyway, if any of you get out to Southern Calif I encourage you to pay it a visit.
