Re: High Rock on Sunday
My plans have changed to be able to teach today so I won't be coming if at all except a chance for an evening flight.

Charley and I are going to the Pulpit. Bacil
Re: High Rock on Sunday
Arrived at the Pulpit around 11:30A. Already soarable but a distinct north cross again. Charley showed up a few minutes later. I set up and launched from the pad around 1P. Spent a half hour in the chop getting maybe 500' over max. A distinct blue hole was above the whole area, with big clouds to the south and far north. Just as I went south in search of different scenery and maybe better lift since the ridge bends more northward, Charley reports from the launch area that his Zagi has found buoyant magic air around launch. Of course I found the opposite by Rt. 16. Used the cross to get me to the golf course where I had a nice landing on the driving range. Charley retrieved me and we went back up to launch and found spectators Chris and Michelle on the new(er) ramp. Chris' hobby is photography and he was interested in taking pictures of hang gliding. So they followed Charley and I to High Rock where Chris took awesome shots of Charley's launch around 5:15P into butter smooth soarable air. I had to split as Tim Bowen was getting ready to fly. I heard they both had nice flights. Bacil
Re: High Rock on Sunday
Left this morning in heavy rain! Had to assure my wife that, "yes, I was really going flying again." It cleared past Carlise and started to look better. Made it to the Pulpit and Bacil was enthusiastic about getting in the air. He made a good launch into strong but reasonable conditions. Nice flying Bacil. I will let him tell the rest of the story. Meanwhile, I flew my RC Zagi around so fast that it just about exploded from flutter. Lots of lift and turbulence around launch.
We ended up at High Rock later after a few phone calls. Tim B, Steve K. and Tom A. arrived slightly before us. I was quicker at poking the sticks in the flying machine and volunteered to jump first. One big biker like guy looked at me and asked if I was really going to jump off with that thing. I assured him that it was mostly fun, and I would probably survive. Conditions were super, so it didn't take long to get me in the air. Had a nice launch into lift and wanged around takeoff, climbing a few hundred over. Forgot to start my camera, so it guaranteed an epic flight. Still some nice thermal areas (marked by birds and floating tufts of plants and insects) got me to 3K and I floated around in magic conditions. So this is what everyone raves about HR! Usually I get trashed and pucker my way to the LZ, but not this time. Tim carved up the sky with his Sport 2 and we shared the great conditions. Finally have my glider tuned to fly very straight which makes it much nicer. I followed him out to land after 50 minutes (I promised to be home on time, but of course that did not happen). Best approach yet at HR and landing without having to replace any divots.
Not a bad way to end the weekend, especially after soaring on Friday at the Pulpit also.
P.S. At the Pulpit: Noticed that someone "launched" one of our campfire benches off the new ramp. My Weber grill was also apparently sacrificed to the rocks below.

Congratulations to all who flew. It was soarable at Ridgely too. Me, Samira, Bertrand, Fernando and another. - Hugh
