Ridgely, 8/9/14

Really good day! For me, after ~2 pm lift was to be had with G.Sessa, Charley, RichE and MarkC sticking much earlier. Many of the thermals started out as zero to 50 fpm amorphous regions of lift and developed into 200 to 400 fpm cores above 3K with cloud base at or above 4.6K over Highland/Ridgely. The views are from the highest climbs. In the first, it appears that cloud base over Denton is below Ridgely’s base.

Of some interest, XC skies predicted the lower cloud base south of Denton in its morning forecast maps (would be really interesting to see prediction track records for their or any of the other thermal forecast models).

Highland was bulletproof thermal fantasticness on Saturday! All who flew soared, with FOD to Greg S, over 3.5 hours! I had a brief 25 minute flight, then at least 1.5 hours in great thermal conditions. The tandems were soaring too!

Many thanks to Jim for the corkscrew tow within a booming thermal. Didn't feel too guilty for hanging on, seemed like we were both having fun in that one! :-)
