Pulpit Wednesday

Post by mcgowantk »

With the return of the Polar Vortex, John McAllister, Dave Proctor, and I went to the Pulpit to try our luck. The conditions were pretty good on launch, with lots of clouds forming and reasonable winds. It was a little NW for our declared task but we had nice flights nonetheless. My max altitude was only 5800 msl but Dave reportedly got higher. Dave went more than 60 miles, I am guessing that I had 50+ miles, and John drew the short straw for the day. Dave landed near Glenn Park just short of I-83 and I landed just short of Manchester. My nephew came out to drive and picked me up before I had broken down. I even got home at a reasonable hour.

It was a nice day to play hooky from work.

Wow! Wednesday’s forecasts looked good but didn’t see anything in the predictions that suggested 50+ and 60+ flights. I guess the old adage “never know if you don’t go” is still relevant or is it –> good forecast + very good pilots = great flights.

Congratulations!

Actually lift was rather weak. My flight took 3:20, and I didn't have to fool around much to get across the Michaux. This gives you an idea of how slow the going was. For me lift briefly got really good after I got past Gettysburg, and then back to the broken garbage. Still awesome day to not be at work. Thank you Tom for initiating hooky day.

I sent mine to Larry. If any one else is interested, I will see if I can post it here.
