Add me to the hoping-for-a-late-flight-list! Thinking maybe 6pm-ish based on the current cast, which could still mean a 2 hour flight!

Waiting and watching.

Will make decision based upon 10:30 forecast update.

Got my fingers crossed for late day flight.

NWS hourly and text forecasts seem strong-but-possible. I'm a little concerned about the 3k, which is strong all day in NoVa... But will probably gamble if nothing changes with the late-am updates.

Looking at noStepper it appears quite strong at altitude for today. So I am not going.

Yeah the winds aloft right now are looking like a deal breaker. I might still head up there with an ETA of around 5pm to have a look see. Even if it is not flyable, it looks like it would be a nice evening to be outside on a mountain.

So the sfc text forecast is now 15-25G35 , and the hourly shows 30+ gusts until 6pm. G24 at 7pm. ADDS 3k forecast unchanged, still 30-40kts .

These are only forecasts; they could be wrong. So a part of me wants to gamble, maybe arrive at 4pm or so, and hope for a great sunset flight.

The other part of me is thinking "That's a lot of driving, for a small chance of an hour long flight at day's end!" .

Hmmmmm......

Aaaargghhh!

Gusts to 35! My cut off used to be gusts 25, then it became gusts to 30. There have been a couple of days where it worked out when there have been forecasts of gusts to 35. But it just doesn't seem to be worth the risk. And even with the Woodstock effect, this is way above the flight protocols.

As Marney would say, hang glider pilots are "Forever Hopeful or Totally Delusional!".

I still think there's a decent chance at a flight at the very end of the day. But not quite enough, given the 4-hours of roadtime. If I was closer....

Going to have to start thinking about taking a day or two off, mid-week, to take advantage of the remaining spring days.

If anyone is heading out there definitely post back here. I'd love to come out and watch. I'm very interested in learning to hang glide and haven't watched a footlaunch yet, only aerotows at highland.
