Satudary (3/22/2014) @ Pulpit

Post by wmelo »

After one week flying almost everyday at Lookout Mountain :) I am looking forward to having a good flight at Pulpit: I did not have any so far.
SATURDAY
MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF SHOWERS IN THE MORNING...
THEN MOSTLY SUNNY IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGHS IN THE LOWER 50S. WEST
WINDS AROUND 10 MPH. CHANCE OF RAIN 40 PERCENT.
Not the best forecast one can dream about it, but since the rain should stop before lunch and mild west winds should prevail in the afternoon, it may become a good option.

thoughts?

Matt
which one do you use? I checked weatherspark and NOAA at Mcconnellsburg, PA. However, when I checked usairnet at Hagerstown, MD, I got around 16MPH :(

Walt you need to also look at the winds aloft. Specifically winds at 3k feet at least.

ADDS
http://aviationweather.gov/adds/winds/

NoStepper - this site has our flying sites listed and will show hourly winds aloft at all altitudes and will show a thermal blip map to indicate thermal strength
http://weather.nostepper.com/

Another good idea is to look at the weather systems at a national level to get a big picture about what's going on. Saturday there is a strong cold front passing. High pressure is good, cold fronts trigger storms and bring high wind.

Hey Walt, congratulations on flying Lookout. I would like to hear the details in person.

Looks like Woodstock is the place to be this weekend. Our intrepid observes will probably be there. Too far for me as a day trip.

I might go to Smithsburg after 3PM if anyone is interested. How about the Pulpit early Sunday morning before it ramps up?
