Tie down straps

Post by Blaine »

What kind of straps do you guys use? And where do you get them? I've read they should be wider than usual 1" straps but I have not been able to locate any. Thanks, Blaine.

Hi Blaine,

Check out the "glider savers" that Steve Wendt makes at Blue Sky. They are top notch and might be just what you are looking for.

I've been using these straps for years to secure hang gliders, kayaks, and anything else that needs to be tied down (other than kinky sexual partners  ).

I got mine from these people. Lots of selection and pretty cheap.

I went with a cam buckle set from Strapworks. Seemed like the most cost effective and I liked material used for the buckle pad. Thanks.

Blaine,
Sorry I am a few days late, but have a suggestion to consider. I go to a marine supply / boater supply store, buy the 2 1/2" wide strapping by the foot, and buy a set of click buckles to put on myself. straps 13-15 feet are long enough to strap down two gliders side by side. While you don't have to, doubling the strap ends back on themselves and sewing them together after the buckle pieces are on will keep the buckles form d sliding off. The straps come in widths from 1/2" to 2 1/2". I like the wider for better glider care.
Oh, and remember - NEVER use bungee cord. The vibration of the drive and give of the bungee can result in wearing a hole in the bag, and eventually the glider sail.
