Sat01Mar : Daniel's, maybe-kinda-sorta?

Post by markc »

So tomorrow looks like far the better day of the weekend: Light S-SSW, upper 40s, and at least partly sunny. 5-10, good for PG, but a much bigger gamble for HGers. Even with that long drive and the light winds, I'm air-desperate enough to think about giving it a try...

In the hangies favor, the current ADDS 3k forecast is fairly strong (I know, I know, that doesn't mean much at Daniels). But if the prospects for sun haven't tanked by tomorrow AM, I might just find myself throwing the glider on the truck.

Anyone else considering?

MarkC

PS: I suppose I could get _really_ virtuous, with another day at the training hill tomorrow. Hmmm.... Ecckk.... Uckkkk....

Hello,
I can't go. I have to help out at my son's Pine Wood Derby again and this weekend it is the Boy Scouts District PWD race.
In any case, check this new flight instrument/vario on following link. This got to be the next new thing for HG... . Or?
Go to following page : http://www.oudie3.com/products/oudie-3-droplet/

Yeah, kinda slow for Daniels tomorrow. Last time I got a slightly extended flight in similar or better conditions, not sure I could do better tomorrow. And it was much warmer then...
It does look like the only day that's flyable this weekend.
I'll check again in the AM but I'm in only if it's looking much promising than now.
The HG version of the Oudie 3 looks cool. Of course I just got a nice pod for my 6030 so I'll probably use this thing a few more years, before changing...to the 7030

Will watch the satellite loop for a bit, then decide based on how much sun is likely down there. If not Daniel's, then Taylor I guess....

Looks like the thicker stuff will be moving in just as I would roll in, so I'm bailing on Daniel's.
Trying to muster enthusiasm for a t-hill day, will see.... At least I got a few errands done,
chiefly a bag of ice-melt for Monday. Bring on the snow/sleet/ice/slush!!

I would have been out at Taylor's but my wife set up a White House tour. Hopefully next weekend looks good.

Did go to Taylor on Sunday after all.... Got there late after detouring around multiple accidents on 95, such fun! John had a second-day HG student, and Anthony who is near his H2.

Winds were good when I arrived, after lots of initial left cross earlier. Because I was late I only got 4 flights : Conditions really lightened after the clouds rolled in around 3:30pm, then went hard cross from the left. Waited/hoped for a fifth flight, and could have taken a near no-wind cycle I suppose.... But not with the U2, risk-vs-reward eh?

John's new student was near the top of the hill by the end of the day, and he had some good straight-and-level flights with very good landings. Anthony had lots of flights and was working on his spots.

All in all, a good day, with excellent brews at Capitol Ale House to close it out.

Sorry you couldn't make it Ryan, but there will be more good practice days!

Any word on how the PGers did at Daniels on Sat?
