East Coast Championship 2014

Post by FlyingFelix »

Registration now open - join in for a week of Hang Gliding fun!
Even though this is a competition, it was my best flying experience so far - a week of nothing but hang gliding - looking forward to doing it again.

Hello,
I just signed up for the Sports Class.
Last time I flew a competition was in 1997 and we used a camera for our turn point's... .
In any case, I am sure it will be great and are looking forward to fly a lot at Highland, from Sunday, June 1 through Saturday, June 7, 2014.
Come and join us.

Welcome back to the comp scene.
The ECC's a blast, especially the Sport Class... what a brilliant idea that was.

See ya there.

We in the mid-atlantic are very fortunate to have a national level competition (ECC) and a regional competition (HC) right here in our back yard. If you have ever wondered how a comp works these are two really good ones to try. There are many places and pilots who would love to have a comp within driving distance of home. So give these comps a try before they are gone and you are wishing you participated while they were here.

I have been lucky enough to participate in the ECC the last two years and it is a BLAST! I have learned a ton and made some great friendships. It would be hard to find a better way to spend a week flying. Register and come fly with world class pilots who are happy to share their knowledge and passion for flying.

My highlight from last year was flying into goal so fast that between the wind noise and me yelling GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLL!..... I couldn't hear my vario register goal. I then proceeded to make big figure eights flying around trying to get it to register. You will make memories that you will never forget. Too much fun!

I will be doing everything that I can to attend again, but may not be able to swing it with going to France at the end of June for two weeks. :P

If there is any way you can swing it GO! You will not regret it!

Cheers,

Matt

I have a line on a possible driver and am looking for 2-3 others to go in. Also, if one of us has a truck with beefy racks to use as the retrieve vehicle, that would be great. One thing I love about ECC is the priceless Delmarva Peninsula - beautiful, and with nice, big, flat LZs as far as the eye can see. - Hugh

Hugh,

If the driver drives stick they can drive my truck. The rack holds three gliders abreast.

OK, that makes Matt, Dan, Greg and me - so we have a vehicle's worth. Ya'll come on out and set up your own retrieve consortia! - Hugh
P.S. Paid my fees in time to beat the $50 increase after tomorrow. Sport class rocks - if you have no competition experience, this is an excellent, low-stress way to learn.

The going rate for a driver is about $100/day, split among the pilots in the vehicle. We also reimburse the owner for gas. And have a cooler on-board stocked with cold rehydration/adult beverages. - Hugh

Nasty weather keeps us from flying, but not from messing around with HG videos
Here's one I've been meaning to put together about flying/training at Highland.
A little bit about the comps in there too so I thought this is is a good place to post this...? 8)

anyway, I'm itching to go flying already!

Nice vid! Highland is such a valuable resource for our area. Makes me want to learn! If I don't get some PG towing setup this year it may happen.

Hi Felix,

Congrats on a beautifully put-together video of your fast-paced HG progress! Just the pick-me-up needed for this nasty weather.

Sweet work on both the flying and the video edit, Felix. Made me smile the whole time. Highland should put it on the web site, as an example of progress.

Felix,
As always, I love seeing your video's. Great video and fantastic flight on April 1th.

I got to get me a camera also. Anyway, I have been working a lot lately, including weekend.

Nevertheless, I will be off this weekend and will be going flying. It will be Highland or Woodstock.

See you guys tomorrow, Saturday and I am getting sick if I can''t get some fly time this weekend.

Driver for ECC Sport Class

Post by John Dullahan »

Of the 15 sport class pilots, four (Matt C., Dan L., Greg S., and Hugh Mc.) have formed a pool and reserved a driver for the ECC. That leaves quite a few of us who will need a driver. Since I normally bomb out early I gladly pick up the sport class pilots who make it to goal or land much further along the goal line than I. However, on occasion I manage to stay up for a while (even a blind squirrel finds an occasional nut) so I suggest four of us attempt to reserve a driver. The cost is normally $100 per day (whether you fly or not) plus gas for whoever owns the truck. Let me know if you are interested and I will try to get a driver when we get four sport class pilots for a 2nd pool.

Just to clarify: that's $100 to the driver; $25 per pilot.

I plan to be down Ridgely on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. I told Sunny I would assist anyway I can. I can also drive, but my vehicle would not support 4 gliders and crew.

A friend of mine from Lookout is at Ridgely looking to be driver for someone(s) for the comp. His name is Adam Bain and he's also a great photographer. His # is 423 464 eight eight eight eight.

Hi Mark,

Good to hear from you and thanks for the tip on finding a driver. I just spoke to Adam Bain at Ridgely and he is all set to drive for me and up to three other pilots, so if anyone want's to join the pool and split the cost of the $100 per day let me know. If we get a total of four it will cost each pilot $25 per day.

I know the majority of the 15 sport class pilots are not on the forum, so if I don't hear from anyone I am relatively certain I will be able to get a total of four pilots after we meet on Saturday or Sunday (I intend to arrive at Ridgely on Saturday).

Thanks again Mark.
