Interested. Sure would like to fly again before it gets this cold...
Re: Black Friday Flyin'
Can someone please observe? I'll just get one of the bikers from the Mountain House to observe for me if not.
My conversations will never go deeper than the weather.

I am hoping to get out flying tomorrow....will confirm in the morning when I get off work. For more reasons than you are probably interested in reading about, I am considering Woodstock. More of a convenience thing than a "better forecast" thing (looking pretty light there). If anyone decides to deviate from the Pulpit or High Rock, or anywhere else you are considering (maybe a site that takes a north better???) AND you are considering Woodstock , post up and let me know.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone,
Jon

I am still leaning towards the Pulpit. Woodstock looks light and north cross but who knows, it may work too. I may bail to High Rock if it is too north but the Pulpit is my first choice.

It's too cold for me to go that far today but I think the Pulpit is going to be a good call. Especially with High Rock as a back up.

So do we have a contingent of pilots?
Looks North cross at Pulpit and a little light for High Rock. Not the best forecast-- but we are game if there are others.

Tom is on the way to the Pulpit. Karen and I are following. ETA 12:15.
Will Observe. H2s and P2s new to the Pulpit need to walk the LZs prior to setting up to launch.

Just got off the Turnpike and was headed to the Pulpit when I got a text that everyone was going to High Rock. Just a little icy at the Pulpit. I just love hang driving. Had to go over the mountain anyhow, so stopped for some quick pictures.
Then made it to High Rock to hear a bizarre story about two people and a dog being rescued from the cube. It was icy. I will let Matthew tell the story. We launched Matthew G, Tom M, and Pete L (it is "nn" damn it). It looked like they had light thermal conditions, fairly nice soarable air. Karen was reluctant to launch because of the icy conditions, and I had to leave asap because of a family situation. I did not get to fly (again) but at least it was better than being at the office. Can't wait to hear the post flight stories.
Just another day of HG debauchery.

Re: Black Friday Flyin'
So Karen and I arrived at High Rock and are setting up our gliders. We talked to a guy who had a hundred skydiving jumps in the armed services and he said he'd never try hang gliding. Go figure. Then a family shows up and a woman in her early 20s, wearing kick-ass boots, saunters up on the the block without a care, walks to the front, slides off and disappears. Her boyfriend runs up with his dog on a leash and they both slide off and disappear. The rest of the family starts screaming and also running up towards the block, when the guy pops his head back up over the edge and says that they are all OK. They all landed on the grate and somehow manged to not fall off-- even the dog. The skydiving guy takes command and I get a rope from my truck. We tie a cinch knot for the stranded wuffos to use as a safety loop and then use the rope to help guide the couple and their dog back to safety around the right corner of the cube.
The last time we were at High Rock we had the motorcycle guy who had jumped onto the grate and then off the grate to the rocks below and broke his leg.
Anyway, I launched first and had to work a bit to get up in light thermals. I got 1800 over launch. About ten minutes into the flight things really turned on with lots of lift. Pete and Tom joined me in the air. I flew for an hour and landed so I could go back up to help Karen launch. I did not know that Charlie had left. Pete and Tom landed about a half hour later and we rushed back up to launch Karen and Trevor. Karen made a couple of passes and went out to land because her hands were already cold. Trevor got, as he put in Emma's log book, 12 feet over and made about 10 passes in front of launch.
I checked Emma's log book. There has been only 8 flying days at High Rock this year. We need to fly there more often. And don't forget your ropes to rescue the wuffos!
