Highland Challenge 8-24 8-25

Post by jimsmess »

The final weekend of the HC is upon us, it looks like we will get the final 2 tasks in. This will be the second year that all 8 tasks will be done on weekends that were scheduled months ago [unbelievable], the weather gods have been very kind to us. I hope to arrive Friday afternoon and get in a happy hour flight, and be ready yet another awesome Charlie task on Saturday and Sunday. Come on out and join the fun

Jim,
I will be going to Highland on Saturday and might stay there till Sunday, depending on the weather. I will be bringing an Norwegian HG friend with me. Though, the mountains looks very tempting, there is a better changes for me to get some serious flying in at Highland this weekend.

Great day at Highland on Saturday and I am sure it is going to be better today, Sunday. We came there at 9A and stayed till 7:30P. What a great day to bring a Norwegian friend to Highland. We had 5 tows each, starting around 11A, finishing up around 6P. I got to cloud base at 4k in good thermals around 2P. We did not fly the challenge but to the best of my knowledge, some of the participants made it to the first turn point. A good day but it seems like it was tough for most of the pilots to stay up more then 1hr because of the wind drifting. After flying, we joined the "social get together" pizza party, sharing Hang gliding stories.
Too bad we can't be there today.

I wasn't flying the comp this weekend, but wow, Highland was really working today! I had an hour long flight early, and then a second for about 1:45 in late afternoon near.magic conditions, totally fun!

Highland was the place to be this weekend! Fun flights and lots of great company. Congratulations to Jim, who crushed the triangle task today in the Open class. I heard him before I saw him and the watched him celebrate with a nice wang over the field, very cool Jim!

Matt, Thanks , what a cool weekend, it was really great to see so many people out at Highland. As for the flight on Sunday , At no point until I came screaming into goal , did I think I would make the full task. There were many low saves, I don't no how many fields I picked for LZ's. I finally got to use the final glide info on the 6030. Total flight time was3:36, task time was 2:58, distance was 70k . My right shoulder feels like it needs a rebuild, I was giving the VG a workout all day long. It was great hanging with wife and kids , lets do it again before the season is over.

Sounds good to me. My trailer is still there, so I have a good excuse to go back for a weekend.

Jim,

When you get a minute, send me your igc file from Day 8, I need to take a look at how you rocked that awesome flight on a pretty tough day.
