Jim Broy/Oregon Ridge: 1928-2013

Jim Broy passed away on June 2013 from complications from an operation he had undgone for his stomach. Jim was 85 years old and worked at Oregon Ridge Park for almost 30 years. I just found out today.

A viewing/service for Jim will be held at Peaceful Alternatives located 2325 York Road in Timonium, Md. this Saturday ( tomorrow ) between 2-5pm and 7-9pm. A burial service for Jim will be held on Tuesday June 18th at 10:30am in Hydes Md. at the Evengelical Church. On behalf of MHGA and CHGPA I will be attending tomorrow at 2pm.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years.... Alma ( Jo ) Broy. This is all the info I have regretably.

He will always be remembered by me as a kind and gentle man....who loved to ski .......and always had a soft spoken story to tell you about some of his life experiences which...I have been told....were quite interesting. Jim was always a good friend to us hangglider pilots at Oregon Ridge and kept an eye on us whether you knew it or not. He was very pro flight and loved watching us as he did his daily chores around the park. He was a breath of fresh air after the difficult relationship we had with the former park super ( Bill Spells ). Thankfully park management since then and including Jim have been wonderful to us in general.

Jim has been battling cancer for years and is an iron-man in his perserverence in dealing with and overcoming it....time and time again.

I could have the info wrong but Jim either used to ski at Oregon Ridge or was a Ski Patrolman there when it was a privately owned ski area.

Anyway....just thought I'd post this up. Hanggliding activity has been going on out at Oregon Ridge since about 1971-72 and Jim has been out there almost as long. Good guy, and will be missed. Maybe now Jim can fly.
