Re: Daniels Sunday 3/10
There may still be over a foot of snow on the mountain. 29 inches fell in Elkton, which is just over the back from Daniels. Bacil

Waahoo! Spring is here b*tches! Only 6 pilots for such a gorgeous day. I got 3000 ft over! The view of Massanutten covered in snow was awesome. All of Shenandoah had snow, but east of that was none save for some on the North side of Parker mountain.
Krista had her first XC and landed near the school in Standardsville! Dan had personal bests at Daniels. Laszlo, Austin, and new P2 Scott Remine all flew.
Light base wind in the slot with really nice thermal cycles. A few climbs were a sustained 700 ft/min (3.2 m/s). There was a 20mph headwind at 3000 ft. I flew for 1 1/2 hr and pushed into the wind and got next to Parker mountain, but lost too much altitude and landed in the LZ. The forecast was right on, except that the sky was clear all day save for some lenticular clouds.
The road to launch was passable in my Subaru - one mud spot, one snow/slush spot - the rest was clear. Ended the day at Sals with a pitcher of beer.
I hope Jacks was also good today.

Nice flight Matt! Ain't that something, that 29 inches fell just behind yet nothing left on the south side. The Blue Ridge spine must have been the dividing line, how's that for poetry . Bacil
