what about Saturday 1/19 at Daniels?

Post by wmelo »

At least the last time I checked, the weather looks like to be good for Daniels this Saturday.
Anyone?

3K winds for Saturday show 45+ for Daniel's. Will watch and wait.

I've got a commitment on Sunday, and since it looks like it might not be flyable at WStock until late, Daniel's is now on my radar for today...

The hourly NWS forecast is calling for SW@10, and the gust factor that was present last night is gone. But the text NWS forecast is still calling for SW@10-15G25 .

The 3k forecast has been dropped a bit, with SW@25 later in the day.

And of course, it's going to be in the 40's today :-)

Anyone else tempted?

Max'ing out at SE@5-8? Really? WTF??

That's what I found in the LZ at about 12:45pm. No sign of anything
strong, no sign of any S or SW. Give me a break!

Up top it was funnelling into the slot. Max of 10. Watched Lazslo and Austin take sleds. Ran a shuttle. Came back up and took my sled like a man, landing in the reverse direction in the primary. Broke down. And then.... An hour before frickin' sunset... It switches 90 degrees to the SW in the LZ. WTF**2??

Some got to soar, will let them post about their flights. I got to enjoy a refreshing hike back up top. Woo. Hoo.

And Sunday is out, grrr!

Ah well, the hang gliding life! :-)

First of all, BIG THANKS to Mark for today!
Knut and I were on our way to Taylor Hill around noon to try out our new (new to us) wings - Mark calls and says it's looking good at Daniels so we went that way.
Got there and met Mark who was waiting for us at the LZ. We walked the LZ and then got a ride up in Mark's HG-mobile.
After Laszlo, Austin and Mark launched, Knut took my old wing (Sport 2) for a spin and had the best soaring flight of the day - he decided to keep the sweet flying glider - I'm happy to see it go into good hands.
After struggling to de-tangle Laszlo's messed up Paraglider lines he finally went up for seconds and it was my turn to try out my new toy -a beautiful WW U2 160. What a great glider! I missed the nice window of winds and didn't get to stay up too long; though I got a good feel of the U2 and I gotta say: SWEET! An almost perfect landing rounded it up. Many thanks to Dan Tomlison for selling me a great wing! I'm gonna love it for years to come.
When do we go flying next???
Felix.

Mark,
Thanks again for waiting for us and giving us a ride up to the top. You made it possible for me and Felix to both test fly, now our new used wings.
I was able to soar and it seem to me that it was all about timing. I started just on the right time. The condition was perfect and not only did I soar, but I got to test Felix WW Sport 2.
Just want to let you all know that I did buy the Sport 2 and the wing did all that I expected it to do and it lived up to it's reputation.
And for you Felix, thanks for doing all the driving today and more.

Felix,

Congratulations for the new glider, and many thanks for your help to sort out my lines after a gust flipped the glider upside down. You made it possible for me to join Knut above the ridge, and enjoy the sunset from the air.

Congratulations to Felix & Knut on your new wings. Also, Felix if that is your first flight ever on a U2 you had a very nice landing. Knut, another soaring flight and now having a glider you will probably be a regular at our mountain sites.
