HIgh Rock TFR -18-22 Oct

Post by CraginS »

The standard TFR for Presidential visit to Camp David is in effect
Issue Date : October 18, 2012 at 2028 UTC
Location : Hagerstown/Thurmont, Maryland near MARTINSBURG VORTAC (MRB)
Beginning Date and Time : October 19, 2012 at 1830 UTC
Ending Date and Time : October 22, 2012 at 1500 UTC
See details at
http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_2_0215.html

(In case you were not aware, President Obama is using Camp David this weekend to prepare for the Monday debate.)

When this TFR is in effect, High Rock is not flyable. Further, flight to the east of the Pulpit is tricky, because you can easily get into the expanded no-fly region.

For newer pilots not familiar with our TFR situation at HR, you can see club history information at
http://chgpa.org/SiteInfo/siteinfo.html
and
http://chgpa.org/SiteInfo/hrock.p40.notams.html
BUT - the link to see TFRs on the detail page is no longer valid. Instead, check TFRs at
http://tfr.faa.gov/

Finally, do NOT get tempted to fly HR, anyway, thinking, "We are so small, who would notice?"
First, when necessary, surveillance radars can be (and are) set to fine detail level and DO see hang gliders.
Second, whenever the President is at Camp David, F-16's are on active patrol right there. You do not want to be in the sky when an F-16 zooms by to get a closer look at you. (And, they will.)

As was stated on the other thread for flying this weekend, if there is any question about the TFR status on any given day, one of the pilots should call 1-800-WX-BRIEF and check, before flying either High Rock or Pulpit.

Happy Woodstock Flying!
