High Rock 9/23

Post by silverwings »

There is a fair chance I wont be teaching tomorrow and was wondering if any pilots were interested in flying High Rock? The forecast looks quite nice.

I'll probably head to the Pulpit first, but if things seem too strong or too cloudy I might bail to High Rock.

Lazy Kevin doesn't feel like driving all the way to the Pulpit. HR is looking very tempting.

The conditions were quite light with little cycles now and then. Flying and soaring by all including Kevin, Kelvin, me, and Tom Allen (in order of launch). We started flying around 2:00 pm. Kevin launched first showing that there was lift to be found and he flew to I-81 and back! Kelvin launched in the strongest cycle (10-12 mph) and initially for both he and I, we had to scratch a bit 50 - 100 feet over before getting better lift. My launch was in lighter cycle (5 - 8 mph) and pimping off of Kelvin at times, eventually was able to get some good altitude 4k above and flew for about 1:40 choosing to land to catch a ride back up after all the others had packed up. A very enjoyable flight and the scenery was incredible. Very nice cloud streets and expected to see pilots from the Pulpit arriving anytime but none showed.
