Woodstock Sunday 9/23

Post by mingram »

Saturday is too windy, but Sunday looks good for Woodstock. We'll have to check again Sunday morning to make sure the cold front has passed and that winds aloft are ok. It was blown out by 2-3pm two weeks ago at Woodstock after that last strong cold front, so it makes sense to arrive early - maybe 11am to give us time to drop cars and get setup.

I'm doing my final Yoga teacher training this weekend. So I'm stuck in the basement of the science building unless I can whine my way out of class early on Sunday. I'm betting on Woodstock Sunday.

I'd love to join in!
I'm an H-2 (AT, FL) with about 22 hours - is there an observer needed for me to fly Woodstock? I just flew the Ellenville, NY site last week-end and it was a blast. Mountain flying has me hooked!
Anyone interested in helping me out? I can buy beers and drive.
Felix.

We had zero winds at Woodstock. I had a sledder around noon. The second launch 1h later worked out better. Still zero wind but at least something to hang in at the launch area. I found cloudbase went OTB, flew in the Luray valley with some sailplanes, crossed the Shenandoah at Hogback and landed north of Culpepper. Nice flight under as well a spectacular cloudbase. The landowner drove me north to 211, next a girl picked me up and I ended up having dinner at their place, after dinner they drove me to Manassas were my car was waiting, lucky guy :)
