Smithsburg Update

Post by Richard Hays »

As of 9/5/12:

I stopped by there on my way back from doing some work up in Cumberland/Lavale, Md.

Good news: The whole hillside is grass/orchard grass.
Bad news: The grass is waist high.
Good news: The LZ is planted in alfphalfa ( I think its alphalfa). Should be baled off prior to the first frosts. No razor sharp corn stubble to deal with.
Bad news: My guess is that the farmer will plow and reseed with a cover crop, so mud may be an issue for awhile until grass grows back in.

So the hillside and LZ should be in primo shape this year. Unless the farmer decides not to cut the grass on the slope, in which case we're screwed. Its really, really high.
