Rob Kells Memorial Award

Post by Dan T »

Hey everybody let's put Mark Cavinaugh in for the Rob Kells Memorial Award. It requires 15 years continuous service and ten nominations. Mark has been maintaining this web site for at least that long. He has been instrumental in all of our fly ins, for what would they be without the evening displays of patriotism? He can even play the guitar a little bit. ;-) Seriously he has done all of this and never accepted a dime in compensation for his expenses. I know they can't be cheap.

I need at least 9 more nominations by tomorrow. Fifty more would be better. Post them here and I'll forward them to the USHPA tomorrow evening.

Dan T
Region 9 Director Nominee or something like that.

PS I just got an omen. I was just about to hit the send button when I got distracted by somebody lighting off a bunch of firecrackers a few houses down the way. You can't make this stuff up!

His name is spelled Cavanaugh, not Cavinaugh. Step one completed  . Bacil

We should only need Mark's information one time. I'll take care of that tomorrow if Mark will give me the information I don't already have.
If you all can fill in the part referring to the person doing the nominating and include his name as the nominee I think that will work.

Thanks for the catch on the right format and the spelling of Mark's last name.

Okay - I've done it - use the link above, Mark Cavanaugh as the nominee - also make sure and click the button for the award 0 per the title of this thread, the Rob Kells memorial.

We need a few more to do it - and must be done soonest! Do it!

Dan, I am honored and touched by your effort to nominate me for the Rob Kells award. But when I think of truly exceptional service, I think of those who bring new pilots into the sport, secure a new flying site, act as mentors to new P2s/H2s, save a site from development, or work to improve an existing site and make it accessible to more pilots. And to be honest, though I (and many others) have participated in some efforts like those, I haven't spear-headed any such project.... Sure, the website is an on-going sort of thing, but hey, it's only been up for 14 years, not 15! :D And those who know the web will also know that I haven't exactly been busting @ss to get new features up and running : photos and links to videos in the forums are fun, but not exactly cutting-edge. As for Fly-Ins and (ah-hem) associated entertainment.... Well hey, I enjoy a good partay! But I'm not sure that really qualifies for formal recognition.

Heck, my USHPA membership has even lapsed! So maybe I'm off the hook?!

Puh-leeze'.

but thanks Mark, we needed for you to get that out of the way before we could continue. btw, not a bad "I am not worthy speech" if you don't mind my saying so - well regardless of you minding - you even did us proud there! :P
though the Sally Struthers Academy Award line, reprised so well by Jim Carrey in The Mask, would have capped it off nicely, "You Love Me! You Really Really Love Me!!!" 8) :P

Everyone else - yes, we love him, so keep those nominations going!

Dan - Have you done any further coordination? Below you will find a POC. I didn't put a lot of detail into the verbiage of why the award is justified (didn't know a lot of detail), figured you were handling that (you indicated in an earlier thread that you'd take care of some of the info today). Maybe Mark doesn't meet the requirements, but maybe they just did not have that yet. I say that because I got an email in response to my nomination that said:

"Hi Valerie,

I appreciate your participation in the awards program. However, please take a closer look at the qualifications
needed to be eligible for the Rob Kells Memorial Award. They are many and somewhat specific. Perhaps you
may find a more appropriate category of award for Mark? If so, please re-submit.

Thanks,

i was lazy, and also figured that Dan would handle such details and flesh things out, but i just copy/pasted wording in Dan's original post, including the guitar playing :) and i rec'd a straight up receipt of nomination confirmation.

Quit whining Mark. I knew you'd do that. LOL

I'm taking up a collection for Mark's USHPA renewal. I need $3.27 from each of the nominators.

though the Sally Struthers Academy Award line, reprised so well by Jim Carrey in The Mask, would have capped it off nicely, "You Love Me! You Really Really Love Me!!!"

That would be Sally Field, not Sally Struthers. Not even close. And it was "You like me. You really like me." after winning the Academy Award for her role in Norma Rae.
