Can a Long distance ridge flight be made? Pt III
Since its over 100 degrees and it doesn't look like Im going to get in any flying in anytime soon I thought I would re-energize the conversation around long distance ridge flights..Some of you might be awear that I have a bet out there with a pilot that a significant long distance flight would occur linking ridges (60%of the flight had to occur on ridges) for over 200 miles..Now I made that bet in June of 2009 and gave myself a 6 yr window that this flight would be accomplished utilizing either flex or a ridged wing hang glider (pilot exposed) ..as of this date a few flights have occured that utilized a portion on a ridge but no one has come close...After some discussion with some notable pilots several have remarked that they feel its very possible..especially in the PA area..Now we never made this clear Jim but I think an out and back would qualify.. or possibly an out (down ridge) then over the back to another ridge for a series of ridge runs then down winds to another ridge run then over the back as far as you can go...as long as 60% of the flight occurred on a ridge.. So here it goes..do you think its possible??
