Weather sites and Flight maps

Post by mingram »

Found a couple new sites I thought were worth a look.

This site doesn't show wind aloft, but I really like the simple UI for finding regional weather.
http://windmapper.com/

Flash based maps and hourly graphs from multiple weather sources.

The Wundermap just looks sharp

Flight Maps:

Cross country track overlay with data from Leonardo tracks which includes the US, but so little east coast data. I need to upload my flights.

Thermal Map of the Alps. People are tearing those mountains up!

This was a good one on NPR this morning.

http://www.npr.org/2011/06/17/137199914 ... uce-deaths

"But 69 weather balloons launched twice a day doesn't provide enough data for really good forecasting, says Bruce Lev, a pilot and part of a company called AirDat.
The solution is to essentially make commercial aircraft into flying balloons, Lev says.

Already, the system collects more than 10 times as much data as the nation's weather balloons, Lev says.

And the technology proved itself in the days before a tornado devastated Joplin, Mo., in April, he says.

"Our forecasts were seeing substantial supercell activity in and around Joplin, Mo., 57 hours or more ahead of the tornadoes actually touching down," he says.

Matt,
Thanks for the finds!

I've added Windmapper, WunderMap, and WeatherSpark links to my weather page.
