World Championships

Post by lbunner »

Hey all, most of you know that I will be heading to Italy in July as a member of the United States Hang Gliding team. We are a group of seven competing against 37 other countries for the individual and team world championships off of Monte Cucco. I am proud and humbled to be able to represent the United States this year. We have a strong team and are motivated to go for the gold! Obviously there are many logistics to work out to get the seven of us and our gliders over there, in addition to registration fees, lodging and retrieval. We have created a website (USHGTEAM.COM) to sell T-shirts and solicit donations to help defray some of these costs. All tolled we expect the outlay to be in excess of $30000. We certainly don't expect to recoup these costs but are hoping to make a dent. Having said all this I am asking my friends and family to check out USHGTEAM.COM to learn about the team, buy a T-shirt or make a donation. Any help is greatly appreciated. Wish us luck and thanks a lot for your support!

John D. thanks so much for the generous donation! The competition starts in a little over 3 weeks. The time is fast approaching. I will update you all on how things are going over there. Whack to ya!

I just noticed that my "Whack to ya" comment which is Irish slang has hang gliding connotations. No offense intended. On another note, I am impressed with the outpouring of support. Today, I see J. Simon, M. Ingram, P. Schumann and Larry Huffman as contributors. You guys rock! Previous contributors that I didn't mention are Pat Halfhill and the honorable Pete 2n's dammit Lehmann. You guys also rock. I only hope to be able to perform near as well as you all have. CHGPA has my vote for club of the year! Check out ushgteam.com, are there anyclub members I missed?

Here's some more press for our sport: Fox 43 showed up at my door just before we left for Italy (http://www.fox43.com/news/wpmt-world-ha ... 6595.story).

How about that!

Larry,

The "Daily Record" article from Amy, and the launching/flying coverage and interview with you and Sue on Fox 43 show how they enthusiastically support and claim you as their hometown pilot.

"Tally-ho" - go get em in Italy and have fun in the process!
