The Great Hugh Heist of 2011

What started out as a routine visit to the health care facility yesterday to see Hugh turned into a breakout from Alcatraz which rivaled any Paul Neumann movie script. The cast of characters included Hugh, Matt, Karen, Ellis and myself and ended with a high speed police car chase through downtown Hyattsville with Hugh outrunning them on his stolen wheelchair--he was lucky in that there are plenty of big hills in the neighborhood. Hugh eventually wheeled into Dematha Catholic High School where he barricaded himself in a room with kids, including his son Jasper, who were giving a choral recital. Realizing that we were in the middle of a potential hostage scenario, Matt, Karen, Ellis and myself snuck out the basement entrance and beat a quiet retreat. The last thing we saw Hugh's step-mother brandishing a machine gun demanding that the health care nurses turn over Hugh's health records and have a fully-fueled helicopter ready to take Hugh to the airport. Hugh mumbled something about having signed USHPA's waiver and therefore everything was perfectly legit.

Too much excitement for me.
