Wallaby Ranch/ Wills Wing Demo Days

Post by RichH »

Drove down to Wallaby Ranch last Thursday with my friend Peter Kane..We arrived late and was quickly greeted by some of the staff to join everone over at the main hall for dinner.. As we turned the corner from the parking lot and walked in I was immediately struck by the number of pilots present..I would guess well over a 100 were there..We had a great meal prepared in part by my fellow Richmond buddy Paul Moncure..We had a few cold brewskies and deceided to turn in a bit early..Friday started out with blue skies and light winds I was able to hook up with Aeric ( one of the staff members of WR) and he got me situated on a falcon..got a couple of early morning tows in then transitioned to my Sport 2 for a afternoon flight..I released at 1500 and was able to find light lift for a chance to take in the sites.Peter as I recalled had a very nice flight lasting I think over an hour..I landed after 30 min or so and tucked my glider in for the night and headed over for some good eats at the hall..The one thing I can say is if you ever want to go to a first class hang gliding resort you couldnt do much better than Wallaby..The staff are very friendly and very skilled at their jobs..From the cooks ( thanks to all by the way the food was outstanding!!) to the tow pilots : special call out to Marty thanks again for great tows and everyone out there on the launch line helping!! Saturday had a bit more wind but I had a good tow to 2000 and quickly found a good thermal that took me to 4000 feet..Peter again had a great flight lasting several hours..after our flights I was breaking down when I heard the familiar sound of topless gliders coming into Wallaby fast..it was Joe Bostic and Dustin racing back from their course..we settled down for the main event the big Wills Wing BQ dinner and had the chance to see some great videos from David Aldrich and Wills Wing..I got to hook up with some old friends John Middleton, Fred Permentier( John and Fred ..thanks again for all your help!!) and met some new ones like Larry Bunner ( great guy by the way as well as a great pilot) ..All in all I had a great time getting some decent flights in but what I will remember the most is the friendly atmosphere from every staff member I met at Wallaby..Malcom certainly is doing a great job..If you ever want to go and relax and get some good flying in my recommendation is go to Wallaby Ranch!!
