[Apologies, breaking my own rule by posting a non-flight topic... Hoping this will be of enough interest to justify that decision. Besides, it's cold out there, we need a good excuse for a flame war, don't we? ]
I've enabled a feature called Quick Reply (QR) within the Flight Topics forum. When you are viewing any topic, at the very end of all the posts (scroll to the bottom) there now appears a small-ish window in which you can quickly enter your own post, right then and there. This saves having to load the full-blown "Post Reply" window, and you can make a reply very quickly and easily.
However! QR is bare-bones : Just a box, no 'Preview', no quoting, no attachments, none of the editing buttons to help you format your text.... Just a 'Submit' button. If you happen to know enough BBCode to be able to enter it directly, then it will be used and your QR post will be formatted as you wish. But ya gotta know.
There are debates about QR. Some think that it makes it too easy for people to post brief messages that provide no meaningful content ("Yeah, you got it!" ; "Har-har-har"; *smile* ; "You're nuts!", that sorta thing). And some think that it encourages arguments, because you've got an easy way to spout off really quickly. And still others think that it discourages well-thought posts, precisely because of the lack of a 'Preview' capability.
On the other hand, QR (which originated as a MOD) became so wildly popular that it was made an official part of phpBB. And you can't dispute that it makes the process of replying a lot simpler, at least for some things.
So I figure that we'll just give it a try for a while, and then we can decide if it's a Good Thing or a Bad Thing.
My only request : If you would not have posted something under normal circumstances, then please don't let the lure of QR's ease change that.
Enjoy!
