Maureen and I are taking a 7 day road trip up to Maine. I plan to stop in Ellenville along the way. I'm bringing the paraglider. If anyone has any suggestions on places to stop, stay, etc, please let me know. Also, how do I reach the people who run the site? Write me at wuffo1@aol.com
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Road Trip towards Maine
You get a weekend or three day pass for I believe $10.00 in the LZ from Tony Covelli--he lives in the house behind the mound at the end of the drive (to the right--not left, do not confuse with Mountain Wings). I believe they changed the requirements for paraglider to P4 after a fatality last year--better check with them before you go. See you soon.

When are you passing through, Dan? I'll be heading to spain next weekend, so if I miss you that's why. I"m gone from the 18th to 29nth: outside that period I may join you. Too busy right now to leave work for more than about an hour, so if coming via NYC I could join you for a bite but can't play tour guide this week.
I HIGHLY recommend stopping to eat at Aroma Thyme in Ellenville - true gourmet eating out in the sticks. If it's a flying day all the pilots will be heading to Gabby's mexican cafe for dinner and drinks, and it's good to join them. For both of these head into town and turn right at the second stoplight.
I'm not sure why there's so much trouble with paragliding, it's a perfect site for it. I think we get a lot of goofballs in temporary residence at the big city who are trying desperately to grab a chance to fly. I remember seeing a couple trying to launch a tandem in conditions most hang gliders were wary of. So in short, if you're new in the area it's best to fly a hang glider if you don't want to be questioned.
You may have to wander in and out of Tony's house a few times before you catch somebody home. But it's okay to be patient because the best flying is usually about an hour before dusk.
Tony and Greg Black shook hands at the Labor Day fly-in, so all is sweetness and light now.

Thanks for the tips Brian. We are heading out this morning. We are going to skip the big city but will probably drop by Ellenville on the way up. I'll definately try your restaurant out. Not sure if I'll be back in time for the Pulpit fly in. If I get a green light to fly Ellenville on the way up and don't get to fly, I might hit it on the way back. I'll check this site and post here.

E-ville, great place to fly! Instead of the dealing w/ the p-glider issues there, why not bring your HG harness/gear and rent a glider from Greg Black?
Pretty sure that Mountain Wings can set you up.
Good times and safe trip!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
I brought the HG harness and the PG. I met Tony on the road into his place last night. He's trying to fix me up with someone today to fly PG. I just checked the weather, WNW at about 12 mph. That seems a little strong for a PG for me. I'll ask the locals. If I get a flight in today I'll post it.
We found a really nice motel a few miles out of town. It's called the Harvest Inn. The places in town didn't look very inviting. The Mexican restaurant Brian suggested was pretty good. The portions were enormous. Maureen and I could have shared a plate.

Aroma Thyme is better, it's just that pilots don't often go there because it feels a little upscale for helmet hair.
