Trike Front Royal-Canaan Sat-Sun
Partner Steve Beste and I are taking advantage of this big high pressure with light winds to fly high over the mountains. Met at FR at 4 PM, departed at 5 on a line Woodstock, Bryce, Seneca Rocks to Windwood flying resort in Canaan Valley, where we spent the night. Sallie drove out to meet us for dinner and a ride. We got as high as 7000 in butter smooth air. There was haze below that, but not in West Virginia. 80 miles or so in 100 minutes - trike climbs around 40 and cruises at 50 with two up. I got a better idea of the geography of the North Mt. and Spruce Knob launch sites. Flying back this AM by a more northern route. - Hugh

Return flight was uneventful but there were some bobbles under cumies. We got a late start due to a cracked filler neck on the gas can for refueling (borrowed a funnel) - so the day was turning thermic. Remarkable lack of general aviation traffic on such a gorgeous weekend! Arrived at Front Royal, put the trike away, drove down to the other end of the runway, and hopped into a waiting sailplane for an hour flight. This made it a tri-wingual weekend with tandem HG Friday. - Hugh
