Highland turned out pretty nice Saturday. I got there around 7:30 (oui vey) to do some measurements on my glider. I finished up building some stands and measuring about 1:30. RIc Niehaus, John Simon and I decided we would try for an out an back to Massey. Launched very late in the day for such a task and the light north wind didn't help. Ric launched first, I was second about 20 minutes later. Ric was 5 miles in front and I finally caught him about 9 miles from Massey but I was low. Down to 600 feet I found a week, trash thermal and climbed to 1K. Petered out, went back upwind and found another trasher at about 500 feet. Worked it to 800 or so. Petered out....starting to see a pattern. Went back and never found anything workable and landed after just under 2 hours in the air. A long time to go 15 miles or so. Ric made it to Massey and landed there. John flew himself into the ground trying to catch us. Still a fun day. John retrieved me (thanks John) and we then got Ric. We did pretty good considering climbs were generally weak, we never got above 4500 and were going upwind. Great cookout back at Highland, big thanks to Eash and Scott. Perfect end of the day meal.
