4/17 - 4/18

Post by XCanytime »

Looking like Woodstock will be a good place to be this Sunday. The front passing through is projected to be weak, but still going to be a bit breezy and partly cloudy later on. Prediction is to turn more northerly on Monday. Looks like an opporturnity for all those who pledged to go to the SAC sometime to just do it. Dan Tuck, your opportunity to soar the SAC for the first time is looking pretty good this Monday 8) . Bacil

Crossing fingers ... Assuming weather works ... I'm in for Saturday @ Woodstock!

What's SAC?

The SAC is a north facing site called Sacramento. It's NE of Harrisburg, PA. Whenever it's due north or NNW, this is a great place to fly. Slot launch. Uphill main landing field. Plenty of ridge (20 miles west to the river, 2 gaps and a "saddle", and 8 miles to the east) to explore. Bacil

Looking a bit too strong for Woodstock Saturday at the moment. Banking on Sunday, since the windspeed is predicted to be 5 MPH less and a better direction. Bacil

I'm toying with Woodstock tomorrow, forecast looks gusty right now but maybe things will change. This new job has me up at 4:15am every day so there will be NOTHING early in my schedule tomorrow other than sharing some quality time with my pillow! Will see what the forecast brings in the morning.

Forecast for Shenadoah Valley--

SATURDAY
PARTLY SUNNY. MUCH COOLER WITH HIGHS IN THE UPPER 50S.
WEST WINDS 15 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 30 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT
MOSTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 30S. NORTHWEST
WINDS 10 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH.

Anyone remember Joe Gregor breaking both arms on Spring flight when the forecast was just 15-20???

And then there's this thing called winds aloft that ya might wanna think about.

That forecast is beyond me ... short of a magic evening. Sunday's looking much happier.

Sunday is a little better, but not by a whole lot. NW 14 to 15 MPH from 11A on til late in the evening. A sunset flight in decreasing conditions sounds like a ticket. Bacil

Woodstock looks much better for Sunday ... NW 14 ... possibly backing off after 5:00.

With it being the day after the day after the front, I'm hoping it will settle more than the current forecast.

Will check back in the morning.

I'd love to give Woodstock a try on Sunday too. Bacil, John or Matthew, any of you going to be available as an observer?

I'll keep checking the weather to see how it looks to be turning out

I am planning on going to the mountains on Sunday and probably Woodstock. I didn't go today which I think turned out to be a wise decision. Give me a call in the morning if you want to hook up at the LZ. Probable ETA 11:30 - 12:00.

I had the time so I thought I would take my glider and check out Woodstock this evening. At 6:30 it was still gusting to 28 mph. Maybe tommorrow. Met John Woods as I was leaving. All of you old timers will remember John. He was a frequent flier at Woodstock.....back in the day......He is not presently flying.

I believe the forecast looks promising for tomorrow. I will check the weather in the morning. If it looks good, I will be at the Woodstock LZ no later than 11:30.

I remember John Woods. He was a great observer who tried to pass on the wisdom he had gained from many years of flying.

Still looks a bit on the sporty side early-- hope to get there around 1pm to fly after peak mid-day gusts.

Cancelling class to Smithsburg. Still looks too strong for newbies. Gust to 25? Ugh.... Maybe tomorrow.

It does look a little sporty but I'm going stir crazy. I might come up just to have a look and maybe run a retrieve for somebody if I don't fly. Flying doesn't look likely for the paragliders though.

Still pretty squirrely out here... about 20 miles north of Woodstock. Lots of sporadic tree movement. And rather chilly, too.

I might be able to wander down after 4:00 PM ... But, looks like I'll be at a soccer game most of the day with the kids.
