Flat Top Friday and Edith's Gap

Post by mingram »

The PGs tried Daniels today, but it wasn't working. The surface forecast was SE, but it was totally East. We all drove up to Flat Top which was a little cross, but doable. Ben Brooks, Laslo, Ben, and LE all got some late in the day. Ellis said she wasn't inspired and the rest of us bailed.

Ben Brooks had the best launch of the day, but I failed to capture it on video. Here's LE, Laslo, and Ben launching.

After being skunked today my appetite for a closer SE site has increased. The PGers are motivated if there is an easy LZ.

From Dan T on the PG list, "The clean up crew is going to need at least one chain saw, a couple of heavy duty loppers or bow saws, and probably at least one metal bladed gas operated weed whacker. Most of the trees are going to be less than 4 inches in diameter. The original slot was narrow for a hang glider and may need to be widened, if so it will require removing some mature trees.

Mapquest satellite view shows a couple of open spaces that should be an easy glide from launch, but I'd check the out before I'd put a crew to work on the slot. The original LZ is a long glide even in a hang glider."
