to High Rock have an opportunity to score work-week soaring flights, but without having
to take an entire day off.
So we've created a new email list to help people organize such trips:
Please visit the HRMagic listserv registration page if you would like to join.
The goal of this list is to encourage spur-of-the-moment (day of, or the night before)
communication about a promising High Rock day, Monday through Friday. Eg, with
a NW@10-15 forecast, no ramp-up expected late in the day, and sunny/partly-cloudy
conditions.
We all know that a trip to the Rock requires four pilots (two flying at a time). Direct
email messages might help spread the word about a good day, and get us to that
4-pilot minimum.
For this to have any chance of working, you should sign up using an email address
that you check frequently. Ideally, someone will notice that conditions are
looking good for a given day, and then send out a "Call For Pilots" to fly the Rock.
Lots of chit-chat isn't necessary, a simple reply of "I'm interested!" would be enough.
Subsequent conversation could be by phone, or could continue via the list.
With some advance warning/planning, many of us can get to work a bit earlier than
usual, and then bail out in the afternoon around 3:00pm or so. And then you could
head to the Rock, taking perhaps a couple hours of leave, or even none at all! Arrive
around 4pm, run a shuttle, set up, and then be ready to fly by around 5:30, just
in time for magic conditions. Perfect!
Let me know it you have any questions about the list, or run into registration problems.
Cheers,
MarkC
PS: And remember, if things don't work out on a given day, you won't have burned an
entire day of vacation. That's the beauty of it... With the long daylight hours, you can
gamble on a High Rock day multiple times with relatively minimal impact.
