Flying Saturday

Post by Matthew »

At noon skies are clear, nothing on the radar to the North and winds are out of the NW. We have to take a cat back up to Emma Jane. Anyone wanna take a gamble on High Rock or the Pulpit-- leaning more toward the Pulpit?

Call us.

Was thinking about it given tomorrow's forecast... But looks like a day/weekend
to get stuff done around the house, beat back the jungle. Let us know how it goes,
it does seem like there might be a decent chance at the Pulpit.

On my way out to the gliderport later this afternoon and will watch the weather on the way. If it looks good, will drop in at HR to check it out. I have a "new" Falcon 170 to fly so I'm eager.

Good day at Pulpit. Wish we had gotten there earlier and I had brought my hang glider. Too strong to launch PGs till 6:30. Sunny, cummies and straight in at 15. Karen, Ellis and I took a hike on the Tuscorora trail and then launched Carlos at about 5pm. He beamed right up and stayed up. I launched my PG at about 6:45 and got 40 minutes. Ellis had a late day extendo. Went North at the very end of the day.

Can't wait for the new launch pad!!!

Late afternoon decision proved fortunate.
The air was buoyant, but only got to 400 over got an hour.
Many thanks to Karen, Ellis and Matthew for help at launch and retrieval.

Arrived at HR at about 3:30 to a high overcast with bits of sunlight peppering through. Winds were straight in but light. Birds were soaring the ridge and thermaling out front.

Half-hour later, it picked up and was likely HG soarable with the sun poking out some more. By 4:30 there were some stronger cycles. I was tempted but with a new glider, stronger cycles, and no experienced crew I opted to wait a bit longer to see if anyone else would show up.

I left at about 6:00 with solidly overcast skies. Winds had shifted a bit to the north and backed off a bit although I suspect it was still soarable. The horizon towards Hagerstown was getting darker but not ominous.

There was a nice window at HR yesterday which would have put and hour or two into the log book.
