Plans include the removal of the big rocks left and right and at the bottom of the current gravel launch. Quotes have been provided (~$5000) and the new launch area would be 2-3 times bigger than what we've got now. PG pilots would benefit the most but so far they've only shown little interest/support for this. In light of one pilot's recent accident there I wonder why.

The answer is that of the PG pilots only Ellis, Matthew, Karen, Sparky and I even look at the fora. The PGers mostly coordinate flying by a simple e-mail list and Ellis recently set up a Yahoo list. The monowingual PGers were apparently put off by the tone of forum posts. Guess HGers have greater tolerance for crap... - Hugh
Re: Pulpit Launch Improvement
Now is the time for the PG only members of the club to weigh in. Without their active participation and contributions towards the project it seems that this initiative is well intended but misguided. Short of the "top of the ramp" proposals it doesn't seem to offer much to the HG community.
Would our money be better spend acquiring a 50 year easement providing us with access and landing rights at a suitable landing field? Loss of a suitable landing field would render all of our efforts at the Pulpit and Woodstock in vein.

First I gotta say, good points Dan.
Ditto to all that.

Boy what an understatement!
It ain't just the monowingual ones that tire (easily) of getting bashed around. Fortunately things have improved around here to some degree.
I'm a bit put off by the notion of not kicking up a fuss equates to not having an interest here. I'm not PG only (I think this monowingual term is kinda retarded)... but boy oh boy would I have an interest in this one. I only heard about it cuz someone sent me an email that all this was going on.
I've not bothered to convert my NZ PG tandem rating to US cuz frankly, there's no suitable tandem sites. I'd personally love to have a site I could take students to. I sit back (on this one) and watch because I'm not a huge player in the CHGPA mountain scene... but dear lord... to equate not diving into the BS that goes on on the list as not having interest????

Re: Pulpit Launch Improvement
You have to stir sh*t to get things going again. I haven't even though about the possibility of doing tandem jumps from there. That'd be way cool.

Re: Pulpit Launch Improvement
Daniel's was fairly regularly flown tandem by Jaunito--I believe Bill's would be a nice tandem launch. I just helped develop a great site in Alabama that has a HUGE clear field next to a slope--I was going to give up on tandems till then.jimrooney wrote:First I gotta say, good points Dan.

No you don't.You have to stir sh*t to get things going again.
And that's the attitude I believe Hugh was talking about.
It is certainly the one that I'm talking about.
