Flying HR today, Saturday

Post by RedBaron »

Another good Pulpit day sacrificed for less than good conditions at HR, oh well...
Arrived at HR with Glen at 1 pm. Conditions didn't look awful, W cross of around 10-15 mph with occasional straight-in cycles. Glen bailed but allowed me to fly his glider, so we set it up and recruited a cold-blooded wuffo by the name of Dustin for launch assistance. Up on launch I waited for a good cycle and took to the sky to find myself shooting up vertically. Due to the cross the lift band was quite narrow and constrained to perhaps 300 feet left of launch. I was sure glad I didn't have to share it with any pilots  . Beautiful winter scenery, smooth conditions and occasional well-mannered thermals made this pilot happy still. Boated around for an hour or so and then landed next to a road further W of Emma Jane's field. Landing on ice turned out to be a non-event, it was crunchy and gave. The winds were solid W and howling when I landed, didn't feel like busting Glen's beloved glider up in a 10 mph 90 degree cross-wind flare attempt.
Nice day.

Awesome =P I can't wait to join you guys in the mountains. It sounds great, even in the winter. Going to be doing foot launch training tomorrow with John.
