Valle?

Post by MikeB »

I've a couple of weeks in February to go to Valle de Bravo. Is this a winter destination for local pilots? Any advice?
Sorry to miss meetings and flyins. I seem to be always out of town.
Had a neat 2 weeks in Iquique Chile and got my first (of 3) 65 km XC. A little scarry for an pilot who doesn't fly enough.
Happy New Year

Mike,

There's no beaten path from this area to Valle although some pilots have gone there in the past. Some of us were looking at it for third week in January to escape inauguration crowds, but concluded that the pre-world comp would make Valle also too crowded at that time. Hopefully late February will be better. Ellis and I are going to New Zealand for paragliding at that time. Wanna come?

Valle is a paragliding destination that definitely has its worth. This year is unusual in that the Worlds are going through the first week of February and, as Hugh said, it'll be chaos at the main launch. On the other hand, the dry season started extra early this time and, as I understand it, by late Feb it'll likely start nuking. And that means you'll probably fly every day!

I just came back from there last week and it was really good. Averaged about 3 hours a day mostly xc. A few pictures at http://picasaweb.google.com/beynenson/V ... directlink

If you need any other info about Valle my email is beynenson@gmail.com.

Thanks both for the followup.
MX is a lot closer than NZ and I got my big air in Iquique in November. Pictures at 11 (unknown time zone however)
So I have to pass on NZ.
I'm going with Jeff Hunt Feb 15-22. Hopefully the PWC folks will have had their fill!
I'm resurrecting my tree kit. Where I learned to fly (mostly near Chamonix) they never landed in trees. I was astonished to see on the Boston club shirts a motto about how Northeast pilots were experts. So better prepared!
Cheers
Mike
