Flying next week

Post by XCanytime »

I'm in toasty Florida checking out the extended forecast for next week. The pattern looks good for Monday thru New Years Day. I'm up for flying Tuesday thru Thursday. Anybody else off next week and interested in flying?

I'm game. I'm watching the forecasts. I'm off next week thanks to three "use-or-lose" leave days.

Monday might be a good Dickey Ridge day. As far as I can tell the drive is currently (sat morn) open with the usual night time closure to discourage hunting. Given the weather forecast it should still be ok monday but ...

I am in for Dickey's or maybe Woodstock Monday. My modem is down but my neighbors signal is good so I am back on line.

Monday looks like the day for me. Can't decide between Woodstock and Dickey Ridge. I will check again in the morning but will try for a reasonable early start. If I go to Woodstock, Hang 2s are welcome to come along. Any other thoughts on the weather would be welcome.

I am still on the fence regarding woodstock vs Dickey. I will have to make the call from the road. I am heading out shortly.

Joe, Pete, Tom, Steve and Hugh at Woodstock. ADDS called for 22 kt at 6k; surface forecast was 8 mph WNW. The latter was what we got - then long periods of dead air. I launched first, got ten minutes by circling in the bowl of the right finger. Steve got above the ridge in a thermal, then tried to run along the ridge and lost it. Launchable cycles were suspended while we were breaking down, then Joe launched as we were headed back up hoping for paraglider flights. He got above the ridge, shouted down that it was choppy and that he had had a scary launch. Tom got the last launchable cycle for a short flight; Pete had to break down on top. We never flew the PGs.
